10th A Journey Through Time by YTL is a monument of style

The Star, October 28, 2016

If you adore high-quality craftsmanship and artistry, the 10th A Journey Through Time (AJTT X) is right up your alley as it showcases some of the world’s most exquisite adornments by world-famous watchmakers, jewellers and fashion designers.
As a treat for visitors, there will be many luxury events taking place during the 10 days of AJTT X from Nov 4-13, including high-end dining at Feast Village with special menus just for the occasion. “This year, because it’s the 10th, it will be monumental,” says Joseph Yeoh, the VP of YTL Land & Development and YTL Hotels & Properties. “AJTT will continue to be an event where all can discover, appreciate and better connect with the world of watches and jewellery.”

Here’s what you should not miss:

A Dazzling Affair

The JeweLuxe® exclusive showcase at Starhill 1 and 2, Level 4 of JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur will span from Nov 5-10. Jewellery works of art and gems of great rarity will be displayed, befitting the Jeweluxe® theme: Treasures And Temptations. The jewellers participating in JeweLuxe® include Paolo Costagli New York (the US), Hans D Krieger Fine Jewellery (Germany), Zydo (Italy), Infiniti Jewels (Singapore), Simone Jewels (Singapore) and Chavana (Thailand).

The JeweLuxe® exhibition is open to the public, with on-site registration at Starhill 1, Level 4, JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur. Invitation only events will see jewellery parades paired with fashion, beauty, culinary and horological experiences. Here are the themes:

Nov 7, Temptation: Crimson & The White
Inspired by The Crimson Petal And The White novel written by Michel Faber and set in Victorian England. The book features two protagonists – one pure and innocent, the other well-versed in the art of seduction. The event will be a parade of red and white gems paired with high fashion.

Nov 8, Power: The Golden Age
Inspired by Queen Elizabeth I of England. This event celebrates power with a presentation of golden gems, jewelled timepieces and exceptional cuisine.

Nov 9, Desire: Affair Of The Necklace
Inspired by France’s Queen Marie Antoinette – famous for her love of jewels, fashion and fine living – and the scandalous Affair Of The Diamond Necklace. The event will feature necklaces, fashion as well as French- and Austrian-inspired cuisine in a setting reminiscent of the Rococo era.

Nov 10, Obsession: Seduction Of The Ring
Inspired by the One Ring in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. On parade will be jewelled cocktail and solitaire rings, paired with high fashion. Registration for cocktail events should be done by Nov 4 with the Starhill Gallery Concierge at Indulge Floor, Starhill Gallery. The JeweLuxe® experiences are enhanced with the world’s foremost authority in gemology, the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) offering educational and insightful presentations on gemstones in line with the curated thematic events’ jewellery showcases.

The Time Is Ripe

A showcase of the Kerabat Series by Masa Horlogerie at AJTT X marks the Malaysian company’s global debut. Included is a piece inspired by the Taming Sari, a famous keris believed to have been wielded by the legendary warrior Hang Tuah, and fabled to grant great powers to its owner.

Between 10 and 15 watches will be exhibited with prices ranging from RM3,000 to RM30,000.

Masa Horlogerie was founded by doctor, horologer, designer and entrepreneur Dr Ahmad Syahid on Aug 31 last year. The company won the Skim Usahawan Permulaan Bumiputera (Superb) Entrepreneurial Challenge in 2014, a highly-coveted national level entrepreneurship competition under Unit Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) and the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Department.

Masa Horlogerie produces high-quality timepieces inspired by Swiss watch-making heritage and artistry, as well as Malaysia’s own cultural and national heritage. The Masa Horlogerie Gallery Of Horological Arts in Country Heights, Kajang, Selangor is the first ever gallery in Malaysia and in Asia to focus on the horological arts.

Songket Pride

The “Timeless Royal Weave” exhibition will feature iconic British designer Dame Zandra Rhodes’ contemporary songket dresses and Kraftangan’s collection.

Rhodes has dressed famous people like the late Princess Diana and rock star Freddie Mercury. There will be fashion shows pairing watches and jewellery with the collections. Visitors will also be able to see live demonstrations of songket-weaving during AJTT X (daily from noon to 7pm).

Malaysia’s own Lord’s Tailor will also be having a runway show of menswear paired with luxury timepieces. The showcase by Rhodes and Lord’s Tailor is part of Kuala Lumpur Alta Moda, a high fashion extravaganza being held at Starhill Gallery to showcase couture collections by renowned international and local labels.

Alta Moda means “high fashion” in Italian, and as the name implies, Kuala Lumpur Alta Moda will feature custom-made collections by established fashion designers. Most of the clothes will be available on a made-to-order basis and may be ordered by clients immediately after the show, during or after the cocktails or through an appointment with the designer.

Gala And Awards Presentation Opens AJTT X

The annual Tourism And Culture Gala Night: Watch And Jewellery Of The Year Awards Presentation 2016 will open AJTT X on Nov 4.
